ISES Corporation conducted an initial Facility Condition Assessment for Duke University Medical Center (DUMC) in 1997.  A team of ISES architectural and engineering inspectors was deployed to evaluate 31 buildings encompassing approximately 3.1 million GSF.  The entire site, as well as all exterior envelopes and building mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems, were assessed. ISES personnel also analyzed the existing condition of life safety systems, vertical transportation systems, and the facilities’ compliance with the American Disabilities Act Accessibility Guidelines.

The quality of service provided by ISES, and the success obtained by DUMC in utilizing the resulting FCA data, was such that ISES was selected to update the facility assessment program in 2005 and again in 2011.  ISES delivered condition assessment reports for each building as well as a comprehensive database of facility renewal project needs for the entire campus.

The identification of all long-term capital needs associated with DUMC’s facility portfolio is a key component of this institution remaining at the forefront of medical research universities in the US.
